Gospel Justice is one of the ways Together Chicago walks with our neighbors through real-life, confusing and isolating challenges. Led by Rev. Alvin C. Bibbs Sr. (Community & Faith Engagement Officer), this focus area helps local churches host Gospel Justice Centers—monthly, church-based spaces where neighbors receive affordable and honorable civil legal consultations and prayerful support.

These centers operate in local churches, because we believe that the church is uniquely positioned to be present and bring hope to the local community. As Justice Champion James Warren from Christ Bible Church of Chicago says,

The local church is God’s chosen instrument for transformation in the world. Providing Gospel Justice consultations through the church positions the body of Christ at the frontlines of justice and mercy.

Across Chicago, Justice Champions describe similar moments. At Apostolic Faith Church, Joseph Gogins remembers people walking in with heavy hearts and leaving “smiling and relieved” after receiving civil legal guidance and prayer. At Good News Church Chicago, attorney Ememobong Ikafia notes that, unlike many traditional settings where time is tight, Gospel Justice Centers create space to “truly listen to our clients,” even when the appointment is short.

Together Chicago is working to see more churches open their doors in this way, offering civil legal consultations that are accessible, affordable, welcoming, and rooted in the hope of the Gospel.
