Starr Park, once a hotspot for gang violence has, by God’s grace, become a gathering place for families and neighbors—a visible sign of progress.

On Independence Day, our Violence Reduction team on the Near West Side hosted a community picnic at Starr Park. Over the last four years, this public space has grown safer, thanks to the faithful efforts of Together Chicago’s VR team in partnership with Metropolitan Family Services. But we know the work isn’t finished. Violence still impacts too many lives across our city.

Even so, this July 4th, the sounds of laughter and celebration reminded us of what’s possible. We thank the Lord for the renewal taking root in our city.

Join our next picnic event to promote peace, safety, and community building. The Henry Horner Reunion Picnic will take place on Saturday, July 26, from 2PM to 11PM at Union Park (1501 West Randolph Street).
